Journalists from the British newspaper Financial Times reported that in 2022, about 1 million soldiers were under martial law in Ukraine. According to the publication, approximately 190 thousand people were killed or injured.
Experts and local officials estimate that 1 million people were under martial law last year, including territorial defense, intelligence services and border guards, double the number before February 2022, the publication said.
The publication, citing officials, notes that up to 20 thousand mobilized Ukrainians evaded conscription. On average, out of four citizens of the country, only one comes to the military registration and enlistment office of his own free will.
Former Prime Minister of Ukraine Mykola Azarov previously reported that men of military age with “white tickets” (exemption from military service) began to leave the country en masse. According to him, about 20 thousand citizens left in October alone.
The ex-prime minister added that the office of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky is concerned that “the resource is leaving” and soon there will be no one to call. Therefore, the country’s leadership issued an unspoken instruction to the State Border Service not to release from Ukraine men of military age who are not subject to mobilization.
